The Jewel of the Athenian Riviera.
Four Seasons Astir Palace, Athens, Greece
Architect: Aeter Architects, Athens & Meyer Davis Studio’s (Interiors)
After a $350 million renovation and 3 years, the entire resort was re-imagined for the 21st century. Ward Sellars led the Hidi team for Communications Infrastructure, Network Design, Wi-Fi/PBX and Security Design. This is the top hotel in Greece, the Astir Palace Resort. Located on its own private peninsula in the exclusive Athenian Riviera south of Athens, the Astir Palace has hosted heads of state for over forty years, including President Obama in the weeks before he left office. Comprised of two Hotel buildings originally built in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and 58 bungalows built in the 1990’s, the extensive property has been transformed into a Four Seasons Resort and Spa. The Hotel buildings were gutted and completely refreshed from top to bottom, and the grounds, pools and resort facilities were upgraded to the most exacting Four Seasons standards. With commanding views across the Mediterranean sea and the Greek islands, the Four Seasons Astir Palace resort is being prepared to host the next generation of Greek, European and world travelers wanting to partake of famous Greek hospitality. New Telecommunications, Security and Audiovisual infrastructure is being developed, including greatly increased connections to the outside world and pervasive wireless connectivity across the site. The Astir Palace is the location of the world’s largest Shipping trade conference, Posidonia, which is a bi-annual event next slated for June 2018. With its own private Heliport and yacht handling facilities, and upgraded Security facilities, the Resort is ideally suited to host the shipping industries biggest players.
The 36 Ha resort includes 66 buildings, all linked together with optical fiber, running back to a central Main Computer Room in the Admin building, below the Tennis courts. There are over 1000 Wireless Access Points, 37 LAN rooms, 450 Security camera’s and a large Satellite earth station feeding a complete IPTV network throughout the property. There is also a Resort wide PTT radio network (Mototrbo), accessible everywhere on the Peninsula, including up at the Helipad on top of the hill. Ward was assisted on the project by Barry Caverly, who was responsible for the Network, PBX and Wi-Fi, Jason Chiu on Security and Simon Harker on ibWave heat maps. Our partner firm Electro-Media Design provided the Audiovisual design.
